Existe cierto temor en los usuarios respecto de arrancar a su auto cuando la carga de la batería es insuficiente para el arranque, utilizando el consabido “puente” mediante los cables con “cocodrilos o pinzas (perros)” que se venden a ese fin.
Antiguamente, cuando un auto se quedaba “sin batería” (batería baja), era muy común acercar otro vehículo y conectar mediante los “perros” ambas baterías y ayudar así a arrancar al motor que no podía ser movido por la batería descargada. El procedimiento es muy simple, sólo hay que cuidar de no hacer cortocircuitos (que no se toquen los polos opuestos o hagan contacto a chassis) y conectar positivo con positivo y negativo con negativo.
En los modelos nuevos, con circuitos electrónicos, hay corriendo por allí el rumor de que esta conexión puede dañar a las centralitas del auto nuevo (el auto parado o el auto funcionando). Por fortuna, tales rumores son infundados, siempre y cuando se respeten las condiciones para hacerlo correctamente.
El procedimiento correcto es así, en este orden:
1 – Acercas lo más posible ambas baterías, la del motor parado (auto A) y la del auto con el motor encendido (auto B), el que no deberías apagar, sino dejarlo regulando.
2 – Con cuidado de no invertir, conectas el cable rojo (+) al (+) de ambas baterías, y luego el cable negro (-) a los polos (-) de ambas, sin hacer cortocircuito entre ambos. Si esto sucediera accidentalmente, sin duda que te vas a enterar.
3 – Dejas por unos minutos que el motor funcionando del auto B cargue a la batería baja del auto A, a fin de que al dar arranque no sobrecargues los cables de conexión en puente.
4 – Al cabo de algunos minutos, pones contacto y das arranque en el auto A que tiene el motor detenido; en estas condiciones, la carga requerida se tomará principalmente de la batería inicialmente descargada, del auto A, pero los cables ayudan desde el motor en marcha.
5 – Una vez que tu motor (auto A) ha arrancado, retiras con cuidado los cables del puente y dejas el motor funcionando durante algunos minutos para que tome temperatura y de paso, recargue la batería de manera que si se para y debes nuevamente dar arranque, puedas arrancarlo sin necesidad de un nuevo puente. Y ya está.
Conviene que hagas revisar o midas con el tester si sabes hacerlo, el Sistema de Carga (Batería – Alternador – Regulador de Voltaje) para determinar el estado del sistema, la vida útil de tu batería y la acción adecuada del regulador de voltaje, según la secuencia que explicamos en el curso.
Como recomendación no unas en contacto mediante el cable negro (-) el chasis de un auto con el chassis del otro, sino que la conexión de negativo va desde un borne (-) al otro correspondiente de la otra batería. No dejes el puente conectado más allá de lo necesario para arrancar. Revisa el estado de los bornes y contactos de tu batería por si están sucios o sulfatados; si lo están, calienta agua suficiente en un recipiente hasta hervir y con cuidado de no quemarte, la derramas lentamente sobre los bornes hasta que desaparezca el sulfato deplomo (color gris).
Recuerda que el sulfato que has lavado de los bornes, ahora se ha desparramado por el resto del receptáculo del motor y atacará todo lo metálico que encuentre; por lo tanto, ahora lava abundantemente la zona con agua fría para arrastrar los restos de sulfato.
